Edith Beene Boswell – Obituary

edithEdith Beene Boswell, 90, passed away on Monday, November 7, 2016 at her home in Huntsville. She is preceded in death by her parents, William Virgil and Rose Wolbach Beene, and siblings Bill Beene, Charlotte Philpot, Rose Elma Clonts, and Ken Beene, who were her closest friends throughout her life. Mrs. Boswell is survived by her husband of 59 years, James E. Boswell, Jr., her daughters Jane Daniel (Jim) and Mary Boswell of Huntsville, granddaughter Caroline (Carrie) Daniel of Charlotte, NC, and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Boswell was born in her family home in Signal Mountain, TN. She graduated from Central High School in Chattanooga in 1944, and attended Carson Newman College and the University of Chattanooga, where she received a B.A. in English Literature in 1948. She later received a Master’s in Special Education from Alabama A&M University. She married Jim Boswell on April 21, 1957 in Chattanooga, and they moved to Florence, AL. They also lived in Waverly, TN and Scottsboro, AL before making Huntsville their home in 1972.
In her early career, Mrs. Boswell worked for TVA’s Maps & Surveys Division and was a school teacher in the Chattanooga and Tuscumbia, AL city school systems. She retired from Huntsville City Schools in 1992, having taught special education at Lincoln, West Huntsville, and Colonial Hills elementary schools. Mrs. Boswell was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church for 44 years, and enjoyed her many friends in the Questors Sunday School Class. She had a great love of family and genealogy, and enjoyed nature and the outdoors.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Pat Aguinaga, Liz Crutcher, Gwen Jefferson, Theresa McLemore, and Lavearn Walker for their loving care and support of Edith in recent months.
Visitation will be Friday, November 11, 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church in Huntsville, with a memorial service officiated by Rev. Mac Buttram to follow at 11:30 a.m.
Memorial gifts may be made to Trinity Place Adult Day Center, 607 Airport Road, Huntsville, AL 35802.
