Funeral for Edgar Rand Groves Jr., 73, of Decatur, will be Wednesday Feb. 1, 2017 at 1 p.m. at Shelton Funeral Home with Bro. Joe Holmes and Bro. Mike King officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service.
Mr. Groves died Saturday, Jan. 28, 2017, at Decatur Morgan Hospital. He was born Feb. 2, 1943, in Huntsville to Edgar Groves Sr. and Mildred Jones Groves.
Mr. Groves was a member of Vestavia Hills Baptist Church. Before retirement, he was a policeman for North Alabama Regional and Lurleen B. Wallace Center. Mr. Groves was also a veteran of the United States Army and was called up during the Berlin Crisis.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Marty Groves; two sons, Jamie L. Lee (Jennifer) of Decatur and Edgar Rand Groves III (Rachel) of Hartselle; two daughters, Tonya Groves Russell (Ronny) of Decatur and Donna Groves Reed (Dee) of Huntsville; six grandchildren, Allison Slayton, Anna Lee, Nathan Reed, Daniel Reed, Olivia Groves and Bella Groves; one great-grandson, Wyatt Evans; and three sisters, Glenda Magyesi (Rick) of Texas, and Deborah Rutherford (Buford) and Charlotte Groves, both of Decatur.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
