Edgar Lee “Ed” Drake – Obituary

Funeral service for Edgar Lee “Ed” Drake, age 85, of Decatur, will be Sunday, February 23, 2014,  2:30 p.m. at Shelton Funeral Home Chapel with Past Exalted Ruler Rick Thompson officiating.  The family will receive friends for two hours prior to service.    Interment will be in Roselawn Cemetery.

Mr. Drake, who died Thursday, February 20, 2014, at his residence, was born June 14, 1928, in Decatur, to William Jay Drake and Eva C. Martin Drake.  He was preceded in death by his wives, Alice Evelyn Drake and Christine Martin Drake.  His siblings, Millard Franklin Drake, Donald Grady Drake, and Elizabeth Ann Thomas also preceded him in death.

Mr. Drake was a veteran of the U. S. Navy and the U. S. Army Air Corps, and served in the Pacific Theater during World War II.  He was retired from the U. S. Postal Service and the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department.  He was heavily involved in the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elk Lodge 655, the Shriners, and the Rising Sun Masonic Lodge, as well as several other community service organizations.

He is survived by one son, Robert D. Drake (Tracy); two stepsons, Steven McMurray (Evelyn) and Danny Miller; 12 grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren, nephews, and nieces.

Pallbearers will be Matthew Drake, Mark Drake, Gary Morgan, William Jones, Buice Morgan, and Jim Norton.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial donations be made to Hospice of the Valley, P. O. Box 2745, Decatur, AL 35602.
