Earth Day Expo Happenings In Athens

ATHENS-Keep Athens-Limestone Beautiful has a whole set of events to welcome spring on Earth Day this year:

Kick off the Earth Day Expo with a guided nature walk through Marbut’s Bend! TVA’s Damien Simbeck is an expert in the local flora and fauna! Grab your binoculars, cameras, and comfy shoes (this trail is handicap accessible) and be ready to be AMAZED! This is a beautiful trail, and a treasure to Limestone County!

 

The walk begins at 7:30am at the Marbut’s Bend Trail Head (27208 Buck Island Road, Elkmont, AL 35620!

 

The Earth Day Expo is our FAVORITE Event! Come see the Soap Bubble Circus (11am-2pm) courtesy of The DEKKO Foundation! Limestone County Water and Sewer are bringing STEVE TRASH back, and he has new MAGIC! Rise Raptors will have 2 shows in the gym! Beth Haney will be there with FREE face painting. And Tiny Hiney’s traveling Farm will be there with the KANGAROO!

 

Gather up the books that you’ve read and bring them to our first BOOW SWAP! You can shop when you turn your books in, or take a ticket and come back later in the day! We will even have FREE books!

 

Stop by the KALB Office at 125 East Street and pick up supplies to pick up litter! For every bag FILLED, you will enter your name in a drawing for CASH prizes. Bring your bags to Earth Day and fill out your information!!

This is a drive thru event at McCain Hall. Enter through the west entrance of Hobbs Street, drive thru, and then you can turn left to go to parking, or turn right to exit!

 

We will have FREE electronic recycling at Earth Day! The only thing that will not be accepted are the old tube tv’s (these will have to come to the Household Hazardous Waste Collection on May 11th!

Join us at Sportsman’s Park (11155 Elk River Mills Rd #4601, Athens, AL 35614) on April 27th and 8am! We will have breakfast, registration and supplies ready! We are honoring the DECADES of dedication that Mrs. Joann Christopher put into Limestone County, especially keeping the Elk River CLEAN! This is a TVA sponsored cleanup, and they will even provide a free thank you gift!
