Canoe Accident Drowning Victims Names Released

drowning350_jpg_475x310_q85-300x238GUNTERSVILLE-A report from ALEA on the canoe accident that took place on Lake Guntersville on Monday, August 10:

“A boating incident at approximately 1 p.m. Monday, August 10, in the Short Creek area of Lake Guntersville has claimed two lives. Austin Glenn Stevens, 16, and David Brian Lenz, 37, both of Albertville, drowned after they fell overboard from a canoe during inclement weather.

There were two additional occupants in the canoe who also fell overboard but were able to swim to shore. None of the canoe’s occupants were using personal flotation devices (PFDs).

Various local agencies assisted the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Marine Patrol Division with the search and recovery operation.

Nothing further is available as Alabama State Troopers assigned to Marine Patrol continue to investigate.”
