Drewcellia Darlene McWhorter, age 66, passed away on August 1, 2026. Born in Huntsville, Alabama, on December 3, 1959, to the late Jake and Nina Maxwell, she was a wonderfully straightforward, strong-willed soul who lived life with devotion to family and a deep love for animals.
An avid animal lover, Drew dedicated much of her life to the selfless mission of fostering and transporting rescue dogs, giving countless animals a second chance at a loving home. When she wasn’t helping animals, she could often be found cheering on Alabama football, heading to the racetrack to catch a race, feeding the ducks and geese at Ditto Landing Marina, or dreaming of her next trip to the beach, a place she adored visiting whenever she got the chance.
She is survived by her devoted sons, Joshua McWhorter (Jennifer) and Matthew McWhorter (Chelsey); her three cherished granddaughters, Taylor, Rachel, and Rebekah, who brought immense joy to her life; her loving sisters, Edith Edwards and Carolyn Culiver (Ray); her brother-in-law, Lynn McWhorter (Patsy); and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Randy “Bobo” McWhorter; her parents, Jake and Nina Maxwell; her sister, Jackie Williams; brother-in-law, Dennis Williams; and her nephew, Daniel Culiver.
Her legacy of honesty, passion, and warmth will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
