Doyle Johnson, 82, of Gaylesville, passed away Saturday, February 15, 2020 at his home. He was born on February 7, 1938 in Cherokee County to the late William Chalmas Johnson and Willie Pearl Wadsworth Johnson. Mr. Johnson was a member of Mt. Bethel Baptist Church and loved singing and gospel music. He loved his family and enjoyed being PawPaw to his grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, February 20th at Mt. Bethel Baptist Church in Broomtown with Rev. Andy Kellett, Dr. Pat McFadden, and Dr. James Sampley officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Mt. Bethel Baptist Church. The family is accepting flowers or memorial contributions may be made to Amedisys Hospice or Alabama Baptist Children’s Home.

He is survived by his wife, Theresa Lyons Johnson; sons, Robert Johnson and Ralph Johnson and wife, Deb; step-son, Spencer Thurman; grandchildren, Meagan Johnson, Nick Johnson and wife, Cori, Jake Johnson and wife, Abbi, Tyler Johnson and wife, Shelby, Colin Thurman, and Gavin Thurman; great-grandson, Marshall Johnson; sisters, Frances Deal, Alice Stroup, and Naomi Tolbert; and sister-in-law, Doris Johnson.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Mildred Cole, Gladys Christian, Iva Sue Cleere, W.C. Johnson, and Royce Johnson.
