Douglas O. Hanners – Obituary

Douglas O. Hanners, 73, of Plainview community near Somerville, passed away Friday night at Decatur Morgan Hospital due to complications from lung cancer.  Mr. Hanners was a retiree of Delphi in Athens where he worked for 28 years.  He was a machinist by training and a farmer and cattleman by choice.  He enjoyed raising animals, including catfish in his pond, where he loved to take his grandchildren fishing.

He was preceded in death by his father, Abe F. “Fritz” Hanners and his mother, Phearl L. Hanners.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Rita Gilbert Hanners, two sons and one daughter: Gregory D. Hanners (Pamela) of Columbia, TN and their son, Kyle; Jeffrey S. Hanners (Penny) of Hartselle and their children, Collins and Carrie Leigh; Pamela Hanners Crowder (Scott) of Mt. Olive and their sons, Steven, Michael and William.  He is also survived by his brother, Robert A. Hanners (Margaret) of Hartselle, sister Flossie A. Keeton of Plainview community, and sister R. Juanita Johnson of Hahira, GA.

Pallbearers will be grandsons:  Steven, Michael and William Crowder, Collins Hanners, Kyle Hanners, nephew Allen Tapscott, and Honorary Pallbearer will be granddaughter:  Carrie Leigh Hanners.

Funeral services will be on Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at 11:00AM in the Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro Bill Hall officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial Will be in the Mt. Tabor Cemetery. Visitation will be held on March 25, 2019 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM.
