Douglas McArthur SmithDouglas McArthur Smith, age 82, of Albertville, Alabama, passed away on August 1, 2025, in Albertville. He was born on October 27, 1942, in Albertville to the late Thomas Melvin Smith and Tommie Lou Stephens Smith.
Doug is survived by his loving wife, Martha Ann Smith; his children, Jordan Whitis (Jason), Matt Smith (Tina), and Suzanne Brummet; two grandsons and two great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings, Betty Brown, Dean Smith, and Ray Smith.
An Albertville native, Doug was proud to have played on the Little League All-Star Team. He served his country in the U.S. Army until 1961. After returning home to Alabama, Doug served as an Albertville Police Officer.
He later owned Southern Feed in Cullman and traveled across the country with the poultry industry, living in Oklahoma, Kansas, and California. Doug eventually returned to Albertville, where he worked for Arbor Acres until his retirement. Even in retirement, he remained active as a school bus driver for Albertville City Schools. Known affectionately by many as “Mr. Doug,” he took great joy in supporting local youth, including the Albertville Girls Softball Team, FFA, Football Team, Band, and Show Choir.
Doug loved Albertville and never met a stranger.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 4, 2025, at Adams Brown Service Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Williamson and Bro. Jimmy Umphrey officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday beginning at 12:00 pm at the funeral home.
