Douglas McArthur Bedwell passed away on April 29, 2022, at the age of 80.
Doug was born in Cherokee County on January 18, 1942, but lived most of his life in Etowah County. He graduated from Cedar Bluff High School where he participated in every sport. He was an employee of Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company for fifty years. Doug was an Army veteran who served his country in Germany. He was a member of Eastside Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon for many years. Doug was an avid sportsman who was involved in coaching youth baseball, junior high football, and high school softball in the Gaston School community for several years. Doug loved the outdoors, farming, his dogs, and helping people in need. He especially enjoyed spending time with his beloved grandson, Matthew. He will be greatly missed.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents, James Claude Bedwell and Bertha Wood Bedwell;
his brothers, June Bedwell, Jim Bedwell, Frank Bedwell, Wendell Bedwell, and Kenneth Bedwell; his sisters, Hazel Hart, Betty Jo McClendon, and Shelly Crowell.
Doug is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, Andrea McCleskey Bedwell; his son, Mac Bedwell;
his daughter and son-in-law, Mary Virginia and Wayne Reddish; his grandson, Matthew Langley;
his sisters, Martha Wright, Pat Moore, and Shirley Shelley; and twenty-seven nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 12pm to 1:30pm on Sunday, May 1st at Collier-Butler Funeral Home.
The graveside services is to follow visitation at Sheppard Cemetery with David Jenkins officiating.
Pallbearers are Bruce Bedwell, Jeff Bedwell, Andrew Bedwell, Eddie Stone, Kenneth Turner, and
Tommy Richard. Honorary pallbearers are Carl Jenkins, Kenneth Bolton, and Harlan Elrod.
