Douglas Braunell was born on Christmas Day in 1948 in Chicago and died on May 9, 2023, in Huntsville Hospital. Douglas attended Wicker Park Elementary School and graduated from Tooley High School in Chicago.

After graduation Douglas held several jobs until finding a job at Saint Francis Catholic Hospital in Evanston, Illinois where he worked in food service and as an orderly for more than thirty years. He was a devoted son and cared for his mother, Dorothy, until her death in 2009. He then decided to move to Huntsville, AL where his cousin, Ken Fernandez and his family reside.

Douglas was a long time Chicago Cubs baseball fan and could quote you player and team statistics. He continued to support the team after moving to Huntsville, watching any televised game he could.

Douglas was preceded in death by his father, Courney “Curt” Braunell, and by his mother, Dorothy Mae Braunell. He is survived by his many cousins and their spouses, including Ken and Lynda Fernandez, Mike and Mary Carani, Paul and Dianne Hodolitz, Ron and Jan Saxinger, and Art and Juanita Swanton.

Visitation and a memorial service conducted by Dan Beasley will be held at Laughlin Service Funeral Home in Huntsville from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, May 12, 2023. Burial will be later in Chicago.

Donations to a charity are preferred in lieu of flowers.
