Dossey Edward O’Steen, Sr. – Obituary

     DO001       Dossey Edward O’Steen, Sr., 83, of Florence, passed away Wednesday, September 18, 2013 after a brief illness.

 

The funeral service will be Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Aycock officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery in St. Florian with Father Edward Markley, O.S.B. officiating.

 

Dossey was a member of the three generation O’Steen Tile and Marble Co. and  Tile Distributors and worked there all his life. He was a 1949 graduate of Coffee High School where he played football.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Florence.

 

Dossey served in the U.S. Air Force Strategic Air Command during the Korean War. His missions were with the 369th Bombardment Squadron and the 306th Bombardment Wing. He was a kind and loving husband and father who lived a very active life and was an avid tennis player.

 

He is survived by a son Dossey O’Steen, Jr. of Florence; a daughter Mary Sue Skinner (Judson) of Pensacola, FL; grandchildren Claudia O’Steen of Providence,RI Alexandra O’Steen, Natalie Henderson, Stacey Henderson Brink (Chris), and Matthew Henderson, all of Florence; Chris Skinner (Jenny) of Orlando, FL, Katie Skinner of Pensacola, FL and Patrick Edward Skinner (Jessica) of Tampa, FL; great-grandchildren Eastlon Brink of Florence and Aiden and Ashlyn Skinner of Orlando, FL; a brother D.C. O’Steen (DeeDee) of Florence.

 

Dossey was preceded in death by his wife, Bobbie O’Steen; a daughter Sharon Henderson (Jim), parents D.C. O’Steen Sr. (Allie), a sister Anne Rowe, and a brother Bill O’Steen.

 

Pallbearers will be grandchildren and family.

 

Elkins Funeral Home, Florence, is assisting the family.
