Dorthy Ellowease South, age 80, of Russellville, passed away on Monday, June 03, 2024, at Helen Keller Hospital.
Dorthy was one of 9 children, and she had a servant’s heart that wanted to take care of everyone. She loved to work in the yard and loved the outdoors. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, and camping. Her greatest accomplishment was raising a generation of family that works hard but loves even harder. She loved to write and kept countless journals. Such a loss for her family and friends, but we know there is rejoicing in Heaven. “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” 2 Tim. 4:7
She was preceded in death by her parents, Floy & Carester Scott; sisters, Vernell Lawson, Sunell Davis, Geraldine Welburn, Inez Ashley, and brothers, Earl Scott, Wayne Scott.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her sons, Dudley South (Donna), Rodney South (Lisa); grandchildren, Amanda Williams (Jason); Rob South (Jessica), Kimberly Inglett (Bo), Austin South, Brandon South, Brinleigh Brown, Iyla Brown; great-grandchildren, Anna Williams, PJ Williams, Preston Williams, Alayna Williams, Kinsley South, Emma South, Aubrey Inglett, Amelia Inglett, soon-to-arrive, Autumm Inglett; sisters, Rosemary Cole Pinkard, Jewel Eakin; and a host of nieces & nephews.
The visitation will be 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Thursday, June 06, 2024, at Spry Memorial Chapel. The funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel with Bro. DeWayne Crumley speaking at the service. The burial will be at Cedar Tree Cemetery in Hackleburg.
The pallbearers will be Austin South, Brandon South, PJ Williams, Preston Williams, Jason Williams, and Rob South. The honorary pallbearers will be Joey Quillen and Bo Inglett.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the nurses and staff of Helen Keller 4th Floor and our nurses, Hayley, Dustin, Dee, and Karley, for the love and care shown to our family.
