Mr. Dorron Keith “D.K.” Mitchell, age 77 of Arab, went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 18, 2019 at his residence.
Mr. Mitchell was born on December 6, 1941 in Birmingham, Al. to Floyd E. Mitchell & Mary Alice Coleman Mitchell. He graduated from Sweetwater Union High School in National City, CA & then attended San Diego State University. His career started in the theatre business and he served with many companies thereafter such as; general dynamics in Clairmont, CA, sales rep for Sno-Pro trailers, owner operator of a mortgage company, sales rep with 92.7 Fun Radio and later retiring from the Huntsville Chrysler Military Division as Quality Manager in 1996. 27 years ago he and friends started the Arab Customs & Classics car club, which is still going strong. He enjoys traveling with the 55+ Custom Coaches group and meeting new people. Mr. Mitchell was a member of the Arab Chamber of Commerce. He is most proud of the Sonshine House, which was started about 8 years ago and has touched the lives of many. Mr. Mitchell is a member of Gilliam Springs Baptist Church but has been actively attending Liberty Church for the past 8 years. He served on many mission trips over the years.
Mr. Mitchell is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jill Carrington Mitchell; sons & daughter-in-laws, Dorron K. Mitchell, Jr. & Lisa, William Christopher Mitchell & Courtney, Jordan P. Mitchell & Amy; grandchildren & spouses, Nicholas & Adrianna Mitchell, Devin Kay & Chris Fulton; 9 great grandchildren, Ethan Mitchell, Madyson K. Mitchell, Aeron Mitchell, Landon Mitchell, Katelyn Poole, Kailer Poole, Matthew Mitchell, Annalisa Mitchell & newest great grandbaby Daisy K. Fulton; sister-in-law, Shirley Carrigan, Janell Lyle & James. Preceded in death by his parents, Floyd E. Mitchell & Mary Alice Coleman Mitchell; daughter, Tamara Kay; an infant son;
Celebration of Life Service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 30, 2019 at Liberty Church the Campfire Campus with Bro. Keith Hodges & Bro. Jamey Pruett, Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel directing.
Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 30, 2019 at Liberty Church the Campfire Campus.
In lieu of flowers donations can be sent to Sonshine House c/o Liberty Church; 300 1st Ave NW, Arab, AL. 35016 or to Pancreatic Cancer Research, 9609 Medical Center Drive, Bethda, MD 20892.
For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.
