Dorothy Virginia “Dot” Younse Baird, 92, passed away peacefully on April 16, 2022. Dot was an active member of First Methodist Church with participation in many church activities to include: Meals on Wheels, services and visits to homebound members, weekly church meals, and numerous other pursuits. She retired from the University of Alabama Medical School as the Volunteer Coordinator for years where she made many friends and influenced many with her hard work, dedication, and wisdom.

Dot raised a family of four children with her husband, Charles (“Charlie”), whom she adored. Her marriage of 39 years was cut short in 1988 with his death. She was well respected for her unconditional love of her family, God, and service to those less fortunate. Open-minded, loving, honest, wise, and intelligent are all associated with Dot.

Dot is survived by her four children, Dorothy “Dotty” Baird Ivey (Glenn), Susan Baird Calhoun (Steve), Ellen Baird, and Charles Baird Jr. (Suzanne); five grandchildren, Jennifer Ivey, Matthew Tuck, Ashley Tuck, Virginia Baird, and Sarah Baird; and her brother, Ronald Younse. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles “Charlie”; her sister, Kaye Younse Sandoz; and numerous nieces and nephews; as well as many friends.

A graveside service will be held with Coy Hallmark officiating. Arrangements will be announced as soon as possible.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the First United Methodist Church Meals on Wheels program, or to your favorite charity.
