Dorothy Smith Blackburn, 92, died at Madison Hospital, Madison, AL, on Wednesday, December 8, 2021. All are welcome to attend a graveside service on Saturday, December 11, at two o’clock pm at the Sardis Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.
She was predeceased by her husband of 69 years, David Blackburn, and by three brothers and four sisters. She is survived by her daughter, Joan Ellen Vinson, three grandchildren and their families: Richard Vinson, his wife, Suzanne, and children: Joseph and Cora; David Vinson, his wife, Lindsey Hershner, and sons Patrick and Ty; and John Vinson and his fiancée, Maggie Knuckles. Dorothy is also survived by one brother, Kenneth Smith, and wife, Peggy, and by three brothers-in-law, Bobby Turner, Donald Blackburn and wife, Betty, and Billie Blackburn.
Both Dorothy and her husband, David, grew up with eight siblings each, so scores of nieces and nephews knew her best as Aunt Dot or Aunt Dorothy. They have all enjoyed her hospitality and will miss her dearly. In addition to her warmth and welcome, Dorothy served the community for decades as an employee of the Limestone County Department of Human Resources.
