Dorothy Ruth Lewis Morgan, 89, went to be with the Lord on Sunday (March 8, 2015) with her family by her side. Born November 11, 1925 to the late Climax E. and Beulah Selena Lewis in Cloverdale AL.
After graduation from Central High School in 1944, she attended Andrew Jackson University in Nashville, TN where she received a Bachelor of Secretarial Science degree. She worked for a short time at Federal Chemical Company in Nashville, TN where she met her husband. They were married in 1947 and moved to Cookeville, TN where her husband attended Tennessee Tech University.
After her husbands graduation in 1950, they spent a brief period in Ft. Worth, TX before settling down in Oak Ridge, TN. Dot’s work experience during these periods consisted of several short term jobs. After the birth of her first child, she became a full-time housewife and mother.
Dot and Marvin enjoyed camping, fishing, rock collecting, cave exploring, and Scout activities with her children. Dot and Marvin were avid square dancers at the challenge level. Dot enjoyed bowling.
She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Howard Lewis; and sister, Lois Chowning.
She is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Marvin Morgan of Kingsport; three children, Allan and wife Pamela Morgan, Neil and wife Artys Morgan of Cookeville; Valerie and husband Don Abernathy; four grandchildren, Victoria Lawson, Shealyn Morgan, Eric Morgan, and Skyler Morgan; three brothers, Grady, James, and Owen Lewis; sister, Lillian Reathford; a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
A graveside service will be conducted Wednesday (March 11, 2015) at 3 pm at Oak Ridge Memorial Park (1501 Bethel Valley Road Oak Ridge, TN).
