Dorothy Moore was born on December 21, 1933, in Fulton County, KY. She was raised in Detroit, MI and lived in Huntsville, AL for over 60 years. She also lived in Grand Haven, MI and Elizabeth City, NC. She peacefully passed away at home surrounded by her family on May 14, 2024, in Huntsville, AL at the age of 90.

She will be remembered as a devoted and compassionate wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt. She retired from Chrysler after approximately 30 years of dedicated service. Dorothy was a long-time active member of Highlands Baptist Church and Jackson Way Baptist Church where she made life-long friends. She was also very active with the Red Hats Society and several Chrysler retiree groups. Dorothy enjoyed traveling, cooking delicious meals, attending great-granddaughter events, and wedding-birth events of all family members. The simple pleasures of going to lunch or dinner with her friends brought great joy and fun to her life.

She is survived by her son James Moore of Alexandria, VA; her daughter, Sharon Hamby of Huntsville, AL; her sister, Betty Mayfield (Joe) of New Boston, MI; her grandson, Chris Middleton (Jennifer); and her great-granddaughters Hannah Middleton (Tristan Hamer) and Raegan Middleton all of Huntsville AL. She is also survived by many nieces that she adored as if they were her own children. Dorothy also had cousins that she remained very close with over the years. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Billie R. Moore, and parents, Butler and Elizabeth Jackson.

Dorothy’s family wishes to extend their gratitude to all who have supported them during this time of loss. Her spirit and love will continue to guide us in the years to come.

A service to celebrate Dorothy’s life will be held at Laughlin Service Funeral Home, Huntsville AL at 11 a.m. on Tuesday May 21, 2024. The family also welcomes visitations at this same location on Monday May 20, 2024, from 5-7 p.m. and Tuesday May 21, 2024, from 10-11 a.m.

In memory of Dorothy, she loved receiving flowers, but she was also passionate about contributing to the Little Obion Cemetery for upkeep for the grounds where her parents and relatives are buried.
