Dorothy Marie Flatt Newman departed this life on Sunday, September 23, 2018, at the age of 88 years, 1 month, and 27 days. She was born in Hardin County, Tennessee on July 27, 1930, the daughter of the late John Henry and Josie Stratton Flatt. On September 24, 1952, she was united in marriage to Burl Leon Newman, who preceded her in death on September 30, 1986.
Dorothy had worked for Harwood Manufacturing as a seamstress. She was a devoted wife, and loved to spend time with her grandkids and great-grandkids. Dorothy enjoyed watching gospel singing on Channel 18 and gardening. She was a member of Bethlehem Methodist Church.
She is survived by a son, Gary Newman and his wife Danielle of Tiller, Oregon; granddaughter, Leah; and great-grandchildren, Will, Brandon, Connor, and Emma.
In addition to her parents and husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by a great-grandchild, Tyler James; brothers, Marvin Flatt and John H. Flatt; and sisters, Thelda Carothers and Mildred Moore.
