Dorothy Mae Houk Walker – Obituary

dorothyDorothy Mae Houk Walker, 81, of Huntsville, AL, went home to be with the Lord on August 27th after an extended illness.

Mrs. Walker was born and raised in Jackson County and graduated from Woodville High School in 1952. She retired from the United States Army Missile Command after 21 years of service where she worked as a management analyst. She was a member of Whitesburg Baptist Church for more than 40 years. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family and grandchildren. She loved working in her home and in her yard planting flowers which was called a “park” by many who saw it.

Mrs. Walker was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Jack C. Walker, her parents, Ollie and Delphia Houk, and brother, Lloyd Houk.

Survivors include her daughters, Jackie Huhlein (Mike), Patti Blacklock (Kevin), both of Huntsville, AL; Janna Symes (Greg), of Brentwood, TN; son, Shane Walker, of Huntsville, AL.; grandchildren, Paige Huhlein, Jack Blacklock, Callie Blacklock, Garrett Blacklock, Elaina Symes; and sisters, Hazel Sanders, Christine Dean, Ruth Manzell, and Evelyn Tipton.

Visitation will be Saturday, August 29th from 1-2 p.m.at Laughlin Service Funeral Home in Huntsville, AL. The funeral service will immediately follow in Laughlin’s chapel, with the Reverend Emerson Lyle officiating. Burial will be at Maple Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Family Care. Mrs. Walker’s family wishes to express our sincere appreciation to Dr. Chris B. Russell for his kind and compassionate care of our mother throughout her illness.
