Dorothy J. ThompsonDorothy J. Thompson died Friday March 27th at Falkville Health and Rehab Center at the age of 83.

Dorothy was born March 3, 1937 in Clanton, AL. She graduated from Verbena High School and attended Massey School of Business. She had a knack for business, starting from her own peach stand as a young teen to owning her own business later in life. Dorothy retired from Huntsville City Schools as the Lead Teacher of an after-school program.

Dorothy was never a stranger to anyone and was often described as a gracious and vibrant woman, the epitome of a true southern lady. She was very devoted to her family and they always came first. Besides family, her greatest passion was gardening. She was always working with her flowers and flowerbeds, hoping to have the prettiest yard in the neighborhood.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Robert A. and Eva L. Jones, and her son, Paul Nathan Mims. Survivors include her daughter, Donna M. Mims; granddaughter, Angela Mims Powell, great-grandchildren, Shelby Leigh Mims and Baily Michelle Mims; and two great-great-grandsons.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
