Dorothy Hancock Smith – Obituary

Dorothy Hancock Smith was born February 27, 1927 in Kossuth, MS the daughter of the late John Robert (Bobby) and Addie Lee Williams Hancock.

She was united in marriage to Charles Ross Smith on June 9, 1946. Mr. Smith preceded her in death on December 22, 2009, following 63 years of marriage.

Mrs. Smith was employed with Sears & Roebuck in Memphis, TN for approximately 25 years, where she worked as the Women’s Department manager and buyer. She enjoyed working in her yard and tending her flowers, but her primary focus was caring for her family.

Mrs. Smith departed this life on July 22, 2015 in Selmer, Tennessee at the age of 88 Years, 4 Months, 25 Days. She is survived by a daughter, Janice Smith Dancer of Selmer, TN; two grandchildren, Melanie Reaves of Pickwick Dam, TN and Jon Ross Reaves and wife Angie of Ramer, TN; a number of great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bobby Joe Hancock and wife Rose of Cowan, TN and Jimmy Hancock and wife Delilah of Kossuth, MS; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Hancock, and three sisters: Mary Brice Hancock, Virginia Kelly, and Joy Jean Sinn.
