Dorothy (Dottie) M. Allen Pour was born March 14, 1923, in Diss, Norfolk England to Mr. and Mrs. E. Allen and departed this world with friends and family by her side to go to her heavenly home Jan. 14, 2018.
Before World War II, she had to go to work at age 14. When World War II began, she joined the British Women’s Land Army who took the place of men who were in the military. They did everything from harvesting crops, baling hay, taking draft horses to the blacksmith, and helping to build runways for the U.S. Army Air Force.
She met and married U.S. Army Air Force Tech. Sgt. Joseph Pour in April of 1945. Ten months later, she came to the U.S. on the Queen Mary to join her husband in Rome, New York where they had three children. In 1954, they moved to Verona, New York for two years before coming to Decatur, Alabama in June of 1956.
Dorothy (Dottie) was very active in the Lutheran church serving as head of the Altar Guild for 30 years, a member of the Ladies Auxilary, and helping with Vacation Bible School into her late 80s and early 90s. Also, she helped prepare church service bulletins every week after which she enjoyed going out to lunch with friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph in October of 2006; her parents; and beloved mother-in-law, Eva Pour.
She is survived by three children, Joseph Jr. (Calgary, Alberta, Canada), son, Carl (Decatur, AL), and daughter, Sherry Reed (Athens, Alabama). She will greatly be missed here by friends and family.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018, in the chapel of Ridout’s Brown-Service Funeral Home with Dr. Aaron C Kretzschmar officiating. Interment will follow in Burningtree Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
