Dorothy “Dot” Boerner, age 95, of Huntsville, Alabama, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, December 15, 2025, surrounded by her loving family as they sang “Holy, Holy, Holy.”
Dorothy, affectionately known as “Dot,” was born on March 13, 1930, in Hanceville, Alabama. She attended high school in Cullman and continued her education at Sacred Heart College before transferring to Auburn University, where she earned her degree in education. During Religious Emphasis Week at Auburn, she met the love of her life, Bob Boerner, Sr. They were married on June 28, 1953, sharing 59 years of marriage marked by faith, devotion, and joy.
Dot dedicated her professional life to teaching typing and shorthand for Huntsville City Schools. She never met a stranger and always had a kind word for everyone she encountered. Her life beautifully reflected the words of Philippians 2:3–4: “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.” Dot lived this scripture daily through her generosity, grace, and genuine care for others.
Dot was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bob Boerner, Sr.; her son-in-law, Glen Yates; and her siblings, Bill Bowling, Nelle Bowling Koons, and Robert Bowling.
Together, Dot and Bob raised four children: Beverly Farrington Alm (Danny), Bob Boerner Jr. (Jenni), Susan Boerner Johnson (Nathan), and Cindy Boerner Yates. She was the proud grandmother of ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, all of whom were a great joy in her life.
Dot was very active in her community, church, and social clubs. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who loved to cook, sing, decorate, and garden. Dot and Bob were longtime members of St. Mark Lutheran Church and later joined Trinity United Methodist Church, where she dearly loved her Sunday School class and looked forward to attending each week.
Her legacy of faith, humility, and love will live on in all who were blessed to know her.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at Cornerstone Presbyterian Church, 1413 McClung Ave., Huntsville, Alabama, 35801, with visitation following from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Burial will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Maple Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Reaching Indians Ministries International (RIMI.org) or Kairos Prison Ministries (https://kairos-al.org/).
