Dorothy Ann Jenkins Godfrey, 89 , entered the near presence of her Lord at 7:05 PM Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at Sanctuary Hospice House surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Dorothy was born on November 25, 1926 in Verona to William L. Jenkins and Florence Christine Haydock Jenkins. She lived most of her life in Verona where she was a master housewife, a devoted Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and Great Great Grandmother and a supporter of all things Verona and Brewer.. Dorothy was a member of the Brewer United Methodist Church for over 70 years and, at her death, was the Church’s oldest member. She was a Sunday school teacher, former Church Secretary and a faithful follower of Christ . A former Cub Scout den mother, Dorothy was also proud to partner with her late husband, Joe, in driving their 18 wheeler across country where they enjoyed thousands of miles and hours of companionship. Dorothy loved flowers, cooking and serving others. Her legacy was her unwavering desire to serve God through prayer and to know and live by his Word.
A service celebrating her life will be held at 2 PM Friday, June 3, 2016 at the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Rev. Chad Bowen and Bro. James Marks officiating. A committal service will follow in Lee Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5 PM-8PM today and from Noon-service time on Friday all at Holland-Tupelo Chapel, which is honored to be serving the family.
Survivors include her 3 sons and their wives: Clyde and Linda Godfrey Gene and Billie Godfrey and Marion and Debral Godfrey all of Verona. 5 grandchildren: Sandra Godfrey Long, Jeff Godfrey, Richard Nolen, Bryan Nolen (Lorree) and Rebecca Hulsey (Donald Wayne). 10 grandchildren; Cody, Tyler, Shelby, Tanner, Hayden, Raegan, Brylee, Katie, Destiny and Luke. 2 great great grandchildren, Judson and Brody. Numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends everywhere.
Pallbearers will be Robert Allen Godfrey, Jeff Godfrey, Joe West, Cody Clayton, Joe Simpson, III, Greg Waycaster and Tyler Warren. Memorials may be made to the Brewer United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 1, Shannon, MS. 38868 or to Sanctuary Hospice House, P. O. Box 2177, Tupelo, MS. 38802.
