Mrs. Dorothy Ann “Dot” Robinson Tramel passed away as her family surrounded her, singing her into heaven with her favorite hymns on December 5, 2024, at the age of 94. Dot lived a Christ-centered life, instilling her strong Christian faith in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Through Philippians 4: 11-13, she learned to be content through all the joys and challenges of life.
Dot was a long-time active member of First Baptist Church, Starkville, MS. She was a member of the Joy Sunday School class, and enjoyed gathering with her church family on Wednesdays at Lunchbreak for fellowship and worship. Her passion for teaching and her love of children melded well with her desire to share Christ with others through teaching children’s Sunday School for decades.
After receiving her Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Business Education from Mississippi State University, Dot enjoyed a long and distinguished career as a business and office occupations instructor at East Mississippi Community College – Golden Triangle Campus.
Dot was married to her high school sweetheart, Sam Tramel, for sixty years before his passing in 2011. Sam and Dot had four daughters, and taught them the value of faith, family, and responsibility. After retirement, they enjoyed spending more time with their children and grandchildren. Dot’s grandchildren, who lovingly called her Amaw, enjoyed helping her make homemade cakes and cookies, eating watermelon at her backyard picnic table, helping her water her flowers, and trips to the MSU “ice cream store.” Every year the grandchildren enjoyed practicing and performing a Christmas Talent show in her living room.
Dot was preceded in death by her parents, Baxter and Myrna Robinson, and her husband, Sam Tramel. She is survived by her four daughters Jo Anne (Bill) McMahan of Starkville, MS; Myrna (Al) Boyd of Madison, AL; Michaelle (Paul) Harrison of Starkville, MS; Milissa (Paul) Hastings of Huntsville, AL; Grandchildren Michaelle Maxwell (Tyler) Staples; David Harrison, Anna Laurin Harrison (Andy) Coffman, Charles Boyd, Leah Ann Boyd, Joseph (Libby) Hastings, Anna Grace Hastings (Conner) Davis ; Great-grandchildren Britton, Ann Baxter, and Blakelee Staples; Asher, Amelia, and Alden Coffman; Bowen and Levi Davis. Dot is also survived by her two sisters, Carolyn Robinson Stuart Graves and Hazel Robinson Dunnam, and multiple nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church, Starkville, MS, on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. in the sanctuary. Her celebration of life service will follow at 11:00 a.m. After the service, burial will take place at Memorial Garden Park, Starkville, MS.
