Dorotha Ann Enlow, 85, went to meet her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on October 3, 2018. She passed away at home surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Enlow on December 9, 2008. They were married on December 10, 1949.
Dorotha Ann, was born on July 25, 1933, in the Houston/Kirkville community. She was one of five children born to Norine and Buford Williams. Maternal grandparents of Dorotha Ann were Jessie and Robert Cross “Buddy” Houston. Paternal grandparents were Lora Dell and Oscar Williams. She had three brothers, now deceased, O.B. Williams (Clytee), Robert Williams (Kathleen) and Crayton Williams (Margaret). She has one living sibling, Mrs. Jane Weatherford (Hollis) of Tupelo.
Dorotha Ann attended Houston Elementary School and later attended Itawamba Agricultural High School in Fulton, where she played basketball as a guard. After her marriage to Leon Enlow they lived in the Hopewell Community in Itawamba County. They later moved to Skyline Community and eventually moved to the Mooreville Community where they lived for many years.
“Miss Ann”, as she was affectionately known to all her friends, enjoyed being a homemaker as well as working outside the home. She was devoted to her family and always found time to cook and entertain them on special occasions and holidays. All of her children remember coming to her home on Christmas, Easter, and Thanksgiving for her special dressing. Another crowd favorite was the special fruit cake she made each winter. For years she was known for her “teacakes”. If you went to school with one of her children, you will remember enjoying a teacake in the shape of a Christmas tree, Valentine heart, Easter bunny or a Halloween pumpkin. She baked those treats for special occasions and sent the goodies to school with each of the children to share with classmates. In later years, she was known for her “homemade bread” and was likely to give you a loaf when you visited. She loved to sew and made many items for her children. She loved to cross stitch. She loved flowers and wanted to keep an immaculate yard. She could be seen outside planting flowers every Spring and Fall. She always kept an immaculate home. She liked to collect certain things and one of her favorite collectable items was salt and pepper shakers. Many other notable things could be said about this wonderful lady but her family will always remember her as the one who taught them to do what is right in every situation.
During her life, Ann worked for garment factories in Fulton and Plantersville, Tupelo Stock Yards under management of Sam Hubbard. She also worked at the Tombigbee Bank in Mooreville. She kept records for the Haven Acres Water System and the Mooreville-Richmond Water System with her husband, Leon.
Ann lost her entire right leg to cancer in 1993, but she recovered and lived a full life in spite of her handicap. She drove her car and managed to live at home alone for the last ten years of her life. Ann came to know the Lord and was saved at the age of 27 at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Tupelo under the direction of Rev. Zeke Barnes. She has been a long time active member of Boguefala Baptist Church in Mooreville where she had taught a children’s Sunday School, using a flannel board to illustrate the lesson. She looked forward to a new life in Heaven when she died; a life where she will have two legs and can run with Jesus all day long or sit at His feet to praise and worship Him.
She leaves to cherish her memory, two daughters, Gena Vail (Robert) of New Albany, Dottie Carnathan (Carey) of the Auburn Community and two sons, Jeff Enlow (Rhonda) of the Richmond Community and John Enlow (Chari) of Pontotoc, six grandchildren, LuAnne McGuirk (Nick), Mark Enlow (Laura), Lee Enlow (Kathryn), Haley Enlow, Houston Enlow and Anna Leigh Enlow, five great grandchildren, Yvonne, Judy and Farren McGuirk, Beau Enlow and Boone Enlow. She also leaves her sister Jane, two special sisters-in-law, JoAnn Blaylock (Jimmy) of Jacksonville, Texas and Johnnie Mae Holle (John) of Madison, Mississippi. She also leaves many nieces, nephews and friends.
Services honoring the life of Dorotha Ann Enlow will be held at Boguefala Baptist Church, 690 Hwy 371 North in Mooreville, on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at 11:00 am with Bro. David Perry, Bro. Royce Hawkins and Bro. Frank Panzrino officiating. Holland Funeral Directors of Tupelo is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday evening, October 5, 2018 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Visitation will also be at the church for two hours prior to the service on Saturday. Burial will be in Keys Cemetery in the Hopewell Community of Itawamba County. Pallbearers will be Charles Davis, Bill Shumpert, Nick McGuirk, Mark Enlow, Lee Enlow, and Houston Enlow
The family of Miss Ann wishes to thank many friends and family members, all of whom have been “present in our time of need”. We want to thank you for all the flowers, food and friendship you have given to us during this time. Most importantly, we wish to thank you for the prayers offered on her behalf and ours. We also want to thank the staff of Sanctuary Home Hospice and Visiting Angels of Tupelo.
