Doris Waters Compton – Obituary

A Celebration of Life service for Doris Waters Compton, age 90, will be Saturday, Jan. 2, 2016, at 2 p.m. at Parkway Funeral Home with Brother Danny Compton, son-in-law, Dr. Mickey Spillers, and Brother Dolton Robertson officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time. Burial will be in Moulton Memory Gardens.
Mrs. Compton passed away Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2015, at her residence surrounded by her family. She was a homemaker and loved cooking, sewing, and gardening. In her later years, she enjoyed crocheting and hand sewing baby gowns for family and friends. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the joy of her life. She was a member of Mount Hope Baptist Church for 35 years and later became a charter member of Parkway Baptist Church in Moulton. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Mr. G.W. Compton; grandson, Barry Boshell; parents, Grady and Elizie Waters; brothers, Spencer, Jack, Wayne, and Willard Waters.
She is survived by her sons, Boyd (Shelia), Alan (Donna) Compton; daughters, Sue (Wayne) Boshell, Deroma (Lloyd) Montgomery, Debra (Mickey) Spillers, Shelia (Mike) Childress, and Jeannie (Andy) Elkins; 18 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; sisters, Faye Darnell and Wanda Hill; brothers, Verbon, O’Neal, Paul, and Dwight Waters. She also had a special love for her caregiver, Vera Burgess.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and grandsons-in-law.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to UDC Joe Wheeler Chapter 291, Scholarship Fund, in care of Linda Edwards, 429 Jackson St. SE, Decatur, Alabama 35601.
