Feature ImageDoris Slough Lumpkin, 84, of Huntsville, passed away November 15, 2018 in her home, surrounded by family.

Her fondest memories were growing up on the family farm, working alongside her daddy near Munford, TN. From a very young age she enjoyed productive work opportunities serving the public, including operating a local drug store at age 14. As a military wife, she had enjoyed many travel adventures including being stationed in Okinawa.  She worked as a civil servant for eight years, eventually serving during the early development of the space program in the General’s Office at Redstone Arsenal. Later she had a long career as the broker of Doris Lumpkin Realty. More important than her career was her unconditional love for her family, where her home was always filled with her children, grandchildren, and their friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Lumpkin.  Survivors include her daughters, Paula Henderson and Paige Frederick of Huntsville; and six grandchildren, Rachel Mortazavi, Cameron Mortazavi, Sarah Frederick, Anna Brooks, John Frederick and Lydia Frederick.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Laughlin Service Funeral Home, followed by a service at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Mike Gordon officiating.  Burial will follow the service in Maple Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Manna House (www.mymannahouse.com) or the Land Trust of North Alabama (www.landtrustnal.org).
