Doris Louise Smith – Obituary

Mrs. Doris Louise Smith, passed from this life Thursday night, October 3, 2013 at Bolivar General Hospital at the age of 92 years, 7 months and 5 days.

For many years she was known as the owner of Gifts and Things in Bolivar and later as a greeter at Wal-Mart. Mrs. Smith was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Bolivar where she served as church secretary and worked with Loaves and Fishes; and she was instrumental in starting Relay For Life in Bolivar.

Born to Earl Wallace and Sarah Irene Miller Mayers on February 28, 1921, she attended college at Ohio University and Kent State. She moved from state to state during WWII with her first husband, Paul Leonard Port who passed in 1951, and was later married to Donald Edward Joseph Smith who passed in 1981. She moved to Bolivar in 1959 and to her present residence in 1963 where she has lived for 50 years.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her son Gregory E. Smith of Knoxville, TN and 9 nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by sons Jeffrey Wallace Smith, and David L. Smith; and by her sister Elizabeth Fails.

Memorials are requested to be sent to the First United Methodist Church of Bolivar building fund; Loaves and Fishes; or charity of choice.
