Mrs. Doris Louise Anders Jernigan, 96, of Hartselle, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by family, on the evening of April 5, 2025. Doris was born on September 25, 1928, at home in Decatur, Alabama. She was the eldest of eight children born to her parents, John Forrest Anders and Alma Christine Murphree Anders. She attended Plainview School and graduated from Morgan County High School in 1948.
Doris was very active in her church, First Baptist Church of Hartselle. She was a great friend to children and worked in the church nursery for over thirty years. Later in life, she attended the Senior Adult activities which she enjoyed immensely. She loved her friends there and they loved her.
She loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. To them she was MawMaw and Nana.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband of sixty years, William Edward (Bill) Jernigan. They were married on June 16, 1951. She was also preceded in death by her parents, three brothers- James, Claude, and Bobby Anders, one sister- Rachel Anders Ransom, one infant niece- Shirley Eddy, and one nephew- Jimmy Anders. Along with her son-in-law- Donald Vaughn, who passed away December 22, 2022.
Doris is survived by her children – Rosemarie Jernigan Vaughn and Laura Christine Hauth (Larry), her sisters- Marietta Eddy Johnson, Patricia Anders Pettus and Gloria Anders Brown (Buddy), her Grandchildren – Tyson Smith (Candice), Kimberly Kinley (William), Kelly Watson, Matthew Vaughn (Kelly), Andrew Hauth, Taylor Ellise Hauth (Marco Fernandez) and Adam Forrest Hauth, who will all miss her greatly, as will her
Great Grandchildren – Libby Rose Smith, Kaleb Kilker, Kolby Kilker, Eli Smith, Alex Hasting, Savannah Kinley, Preston Kinley, Kayden Sivils, and Samuel Vaughn.
A Celebration of Life will be held at First Baptist Church of Hartselle, on April 15, 2025 at 1:00 PM. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until service time at the church. Doris will be laid to rest at Herring Cemetery after the service.
Pallbearers will be Matthew Vaughn, Tyson Smith, Eli Smith, Alex Kinley, Marco Fernandez, and William Kinley.
