Doris Kay Sappington, 80, passed away on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at Union County Health and Rehab in New Albany, MS. Born on March 19, 1945, in New Albany, MS, to James Clarence and Linnie Peretha Hearn Rutledge, she was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. She married Bobby Glenn Sappington, with whom she raised two sons. Doris found joy outside tending to her flowerbeds.
Kay is survived by her sister, Margie Dutcher; her son, James Sappington; her granddaughter, Shaylin Sappington Haley (Farrah); and her four nieces, Mona Jones (Rick), Jennifer Nesler (Gary), Melissa Terry (Jason), and Pam Baldwin.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her son, Bobby Glenn Sappington, Jr.
Funeral Service will take place on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at 2 PM at Bethel Baptist Church, officiated by Brother Lee Dillard. Visitation starts at 12 PM and will continue until the service begins. Burial will follow at Bethel Cemetery.
Pallbearers include Gary Nesler, Walter Richardson, and Tony Richardson.
