Doris Jean McNew, 82, of Fort Payne, passed to her heavenly home November 29, 2023. She was born April 25, 1941 in DeKalb County, Alabama, to the late Elmer Buchanan and Ola Mae Smith Buchanan. She was an active member of Ruhama Baptist Church and the Lookout Mountain Homemakers and was retired from TVA. Mrs. McNew loved plants and flowers and her dog Buddy Reaux.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Wilson Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Walkers Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 12 noon until the 2 p.m. hour of service.
A devoted wife, loving mother, and matriarch to her siblings, she is survived by her husband of 65 years James Dwight McNew and daughter Nikki Elizabeth McNew as well as sisters Sherry Mountain, Brenda Charles, Emma Maness, and Judy Barger.
She was preceded in death by her siblings Danny Buchanan, Sue Frady, Liz Smith, and Teresa Buchanan.
