Doris Jean Cooley, 83, passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at the North Mississippi Medical Center Hospice Unit after a brief illness.  She was born October 7, 1942, to the late Medford and Mary Lou Ryan Roberts. Doris was a graduate of Mantachie High School and was married to her husband of almost 56 years, James Frankie Cooley, on March 5, 1964. She provided care to children at the North Mississippi Medical Center Child Care and faithfully supported Frank in his music ministry at various churches, including First Baptist Priceville, First Baptist Sherman, First Baptist Nettleton, First Baptist Rolling Fork, First Baptist Ripley, First Baptist Nettleton, First United Methodist Nettleton, and First Baptist Plantersville.  She enjoyed traveling, gospel music, politics, and being a homemaker, but her greatest delight was in her grandson Knox. Possessing a sweet, gentle spirit, Doris will ever be remembered for her kindness and willingness to see the good in everyone she met.

 

Services honoring her life will be at 2 p.m. Friday, March 20, at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Mantachie with Bro. Danny Rushing officiating.  Private burial will follow in Fawn Grove Cemetery.

 

She is survived by her children, Daphne Pinkerton (Derrick) of Tupelo and Nathan Cooley (Stacie) of Mantachie; her grandchildren, James Knox Cooley and Dawson Young; three brothers, Jerry Roberts (Cynthia), Wallace Roberts (Brenda), and Tommy Roberts (Shelia), all of Baldwyn; and one sister, Charlotte Lollar (Robbie) of Mooreville.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband Frank; her parents, Medford and Mary Lou Roberts; and one brother, Mack Roberts.

 

Visitation will be from noon until service time Friday at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home in Mantachie.
