On June 3, 2021, Doris Dempsey passed away at the age of 83. Doris was born in Big Cove, AL, on October 23, 1937, to Levi Crawford Howell and Mary (Drake) Howell. She grew up in Big Cove with her 3 siblings. In 1955, she graduated from Madison County High School, and she then married Len William (Bill) Dempsey in 1956. They raised 2 sons, Stan and Greg, and 2 daughters, Terri and Angie. She and Bill traveled all across the country in his airplane, and later, in the motor home visiting some of their favorite places, like Alaska and Cape Canaveral to watch Space Shuttle launches. Doris loved spending time with her family. She traveled to many places across Alabama and Tennessee watching her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren play ball, cheer and dance.
Doris was preceded in death by her father Crawford, mother Mary, sister Nelly, brother Larry, and husband Bill.
She is survived by her brother Robert; children Stan (Janet), Greg (Nancy), Terri, and Angie (Jackie); grandchildren Shane (Nicole), Kyle (Amy), Brad (Savannah), and Emily; and great grandchildren Drake, Eli, Hadley, and Karis.
Visitation will be held at New Hope Funeral Home on Sunday 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM with graveside service to follow at 3:00 PM in Green Valley Cemetery with Keith Witherow officiating.
