Donny Max Gibbs, Sr. was born December 18, 1944 in Crump, TN, the son of the late Finley “Tony” Edgar and Birdie Haure Moffett Gibbs. He was united in marriage to Dianna Sue Umphrey on September 4, 1964. Mr. Gibbs worked for the City of Memphis Fire Department and was proud to serve for 27 and half years, finishing his fire fighter career as Lieutenant. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Selmer, TN. He was one of the founding fathers and served
on the board for the Habitat for Humanity of McNairy County. In 2013, he was awarded McNairy County Volunteer of the year. In 2005 and 2016, he received Modern Woodmen Hometown Hero Awards. He was a wonderful husband and an awesome dad and granddad. Mr. Gibbs departed this life on September 10, 2016 in Corinth, Mississippi at the age of 71 Years, 8 Months, 23 Days.
He is survived by his wife, Dianna Sue Gibbs of Stantonville, TN; his children: Donny Max Gibbs Jr. and wife Jennifer of Selmer, TN, Richard Edward Gibbs and wife Rhonda of Bowling Green, KY, Michelle Gibbs Wallis and husband Tim of Adamsville, TN; six grandchildren: Dustin Gibbs and wife Jamie, Eric Gibbs and wife Hannah, Tyler Gibbs, Rachael Gibbs Lee and husband Shelby, Jacob Wallis, Noah Wallis; three great grandchildren: Haven Gibbs, Grady Gibbs, Riley Ann Gibbs; two brothers, Bobby Gibbs and wife Patsy of Adamsville, TN, Kenny Gibbs and companion Josie of Savannah, TN; a sister, Martha Davey and husband Mel of Adamsville, TN; a host of nieces and nephews; and an awesome church family of First Baprist Church of Selmer.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Gibbs was preceded in death by seven brothers: W. M. Gibbs, John Elmer Gibbs, Hoover Gibbs, Joe Gibbs, Fay Gibbs, Ray Gibbs, Billy Gibbs; three sisters: Charlene Powell, Louise Watson, Margaret Scott.
