Donnie Lu Doverspike – Obituary

Donnie Lu Doverspike (nee Barbour), 86, of Huntsville, passed away Saturday. She was born in Ford City, PA to the late John William Lester Barbour and Genevieve Almerta Dietz.  Raised by her mother and stepfather, Thomas Lavern Knight, she graduated from Ford City High School in 1949.  She married Ronald Dean Doverspike in 1953 and remained in her hometown raising their three daughters until 1969 when she moved to Bridgeport, WV.  The family ultimately moved to Huntsville in 1975.  She was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church.

Survivors include daughter, Susan Kay Doverspike, Lynne Etta Cauthen (Gregg), and Beth Ann Rumbarger (Toby); beloved granddaughters, Kasey Dean Rumbarger, Greer Lin Cauthen, and Quinn Lu Cauthen; brother, Thomas Knight (Kathy); sister, Kay Nan Rodney; sister-in-law, Vivian Doverspike; and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 64 years, Dean, as well as her brothers-in-law, Grant Doverspike and William Doverspike, Jr.; and sister-in-law, Glenda Doverspike.

Visitation will be from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church.  A funeral Mass will follow at 10:00 a.m. with a reception after.  Inurnment will be at the Annunciation of the Lord Catholic Church columbarium in Decatur, AL.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Memphis, TN.
