Mr. Donnie E. Garrett, age 72, of Arab, Alabama, passed away on Thursday, December 22, 2022 at Huntsville Hospital.
Mr. Garrett was born on December 1, 1950 to Elvener Hester Garrett and Frances Jewell Head Garrett in Marshall County, Alabama. He was married to Sara Nell Nicholson Garrett for 50 years. Mr. Garrett worked in Hazardous Waste Operations with Orchid Orthopedic Solutions in Arab, Alabama. He was a lifelong resident of Arab, Alabama. He was a United States Army veteran who proudly served his country in Vietnam. Donnie was a member of the Arab Church of Christ. He was a faithful supporter of Alabama football and Atlanta Braves baseball. He loved coaching girls softball and playing the guitar. He mostly enjoyed and loved family time, especially with his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Cherishing memories of Donnie is his wife, Sara Nell Garrett; his children, David Lane Garrett (Tori) and Dana Garrett Brooks (Shane). Donnie is also survived by his three grandchildren, Ayla Rose Garrett, Nicholas Warren Garrett, Brady Andrew Brooks and a host of nieces and nephews.
Preceding Mr. Garrett in death are his parents, Elvener and Jewell Garrett, and siblings, Lane Garrett and Kay Nell Duncan.
A memorial service will be held at the Arab Church of Christ on Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive and welcome friends prior to the service beginning at 10:00 a.m. Brother Ken Tyler and Brother Steve Johnson are officiating.
The family has chosen to honor Donnie’s wishes with cremation. In lieu of flowers the family welcomes and encourages donations be made to the Arab Church of Christ Mission Fund or to the American Diabetes Association.
