Donney “Don” Birchfield

Donney “Don” Birchfield, 68, died Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at his residence in Tupelo after a long battle with cancer.  Don was born in Washington Courthouse, Ohio on April 10, l954, one of ten children  of the Cecil Birchfield  and Marie Yates Birchfield.    He grew up there and graduated from Washington High School.  He married Kathy Gillespie Birchfield, a long time Red Bay resident,  on April 10, 1992 and they moved to Tupelo where he lived until his death.  Don spent the last 20 years or so of his working life as a Supervisor in the Supply/Processing Department at North Miss. Medical Center in Tupelo.  Don and Kathy attended Wildwood Baptist Church. He enjoyed woodworking, building things, fishing, flea markets and was a huge fan of the productions at Tupelo Community Theatre.

A memorial service, with military honors, remembering his life will be held at 6 PM Monday, October 3, 2022 at the Sadie Holland Memorial Chapel at Holland Funeral Directors-Tupelo with Bro. Mike Sauvageot officiating.  Visitation will be from 5pm-service time on Monday only, all at the funeral home. For those unable to attend, the service may be viewed at www.hollandfuneraldirectors.com/Livestreaming and will be permanently archived thereafter.

Don is survived by his wife, Kathy Birchfield of Tupelo; hi son Bob Sandlin (Laura) of New Albany, his daughter, Vicki Woodward (Kevin) of Red Bay, Ala. 4 grandchildren; his siblings and their families in Ohio and across the country and a host of friends and other near relatives.   He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Donney Birchfield, Jr.
