Donald Wayne Crawford, age 72, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of September 8, 2016. Don was born in Knoxville, TN on November 30, 1943. Don served honorably in the Army from 1965 until 1967. Don worked at Collins-Burke Funeral Home until he retired in 2006. He continued to care for Lona until her death in 2013.
Don is survived by his Daughter and Son-in-law-Donna and Wade Benson of Jasper; his two Grandsons-Will and Braxton; Brother and Sister-in-law-Marvin and Betty Crawford of Knoxville, TN; Sister-Kathy Crawford Hicks of Knoxville, TN; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Don was preceded in death by his Wife-Lona O’Rear Crawford; his Parents-Henry and Rose Crawford of Knoxville, TN; Sister and Brother-in-law-Lynda and Randy Dew of Knoxville, TN and Brother-in-law-J.R. Hicks of Knoxville, TN.
Don’s daughter, Donna, would like to say a few special thank yous. Tim and Chere Phillips, without your love and help over the last two years, I would have been lost. I would also like to say a thank you to Brookwood Baptist Medical Center of Jasper staff and Alabama Hospice Staff. You gave my Daddy the best care and attention I could ask for in his last days. To the staff and families of Collins-Burke Funeral home, you have always been a large part of my family and will continue to be. Thank you for your love and support during this sad time for my family. I love each of you.
There will be a memorial service in the Collins-Burke Funeral Home Chapel, Monday, September 12th at 6:30 PM. Rick Sherer will officiate. The family will receive friends at 5:30 PM. The family has asked in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to the Semper Fi Fund in Don’s honor.
