Dr. Donald Watters, 63, of Huntsville, was found deceased in his home on September 5th. Dr. Watters was being treated for esophageal cancer.
Dr. Watters had a private practice in Huntsville and was also a supervising psychologist with Limestone Correctional Facility in Huntsville. He was an adjunct faculty member teaching psychology at the University of Alabama from 1990 to 1993, and was elected President of Alabama Psychological Association in 2005. He had a passion for knowledge from a very early age and excelled in all things academic. He had a strong desire to understand people with emotional disturbances and illnesses and wanted to bring peace to those with heavy burdens.
Dr. Watters was born in Wellington, Kansas and spent his youth in Belle Plaine, Kansas. He attended Wichita State University and continued his education at the University of Cincinnati where he received his Masters and his PH.D.in Psychology. Dr. Watters received many scholastic honors thru out his academic years.
Don was preceded in death by his parents Milton and Norma (Jones) Watters. Sister and brother-in-law, Linda (Watters) and James Allman, and niece Amy Jo Allman. Don is survived by his sister Nancy (Steve) Elpers, nieces, nephews, uncle, cousins and many dear friends.
Dr. Watter’s graveside service will be in his childhood hometown of Belle Plaine, Kansas on October 8th at 10:30a.m with his cousin, Rev. Dale Jones officiating.
