Funeral service for Donald Ray Franks, 62, of Moulton, will be Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at Parkway Funeral Home Chapel at 2 p.m. with Marcus Lipscomb officiating and Parkway Funeral Home directing. Burial will follow at East Lawrence Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be tonight at the funeral home from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Mr. Franks died on March 16, 2013, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born on July 13, 1950, to the late Haley and Myrtle Franks in Hardin County, Tennessee.
He was an elevator mechanic at Chugach/ Redstone Arsenal for 30 years, enjoyed spending all of his time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He devoted his time in the youth baseball and softball programs at Speake School. He served with the Army in the Vietnam War in which he proudly received three medals serving our country. He was loved by all that met him. He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ellis Franks and Bud Franks; two sisters, Marie Copeland and Rosie Strickland; one nephew, Michael Lynn Franks; father-in-law, Wilmer Smith Jr.; and brother-in-law, Mike Smith.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Sherri June Franks, of Moulton; two daughters, Natasha Jo White (Michael), and Melody Nicole Blaxton (Craig); two brothers, Paul David Franks (Juanita) and Haley Junior Franks (Kay); four sisters, Dorothy Vickery, Ellen Frazier (Anthony), Mackie Johnson (Jerry), and Linda Fisher (Jerry); three grandchildren, Dalton Hill, Dana Hill, and MaRay Blaxton; four sister-in-laws, Debbie Singlton (Bobby), Joan Harris (Jamie), Dana Smith (Angie), and Regina Smith; and two mother-in-laws, Betty Randolph and Nina Smith; and a host of loving nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Dalton Hill, Jeffrey Sherrill, Stacy Singleton, Shane Singleton, Chad Smith, Jack Franks. Honorary Pallbearers will be Greg Griffin, Emory McWorter, David Wren, William Thompson, John Dotson, Donnie Terry, Tommy Davis, Phillip Blackwood, and Daniel Cole.
