Funeral services for Mr. Donald L. Wheeles age 91 of Ashland will be held Wednesday January 5, 2022 at 2:00 P.M. at Benefield Funeral Home of Ashland with Bro Phillip Oliver and Bro, Larry Mitchell officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Ashland City Cemetery.

Mr. Wheeles was born in Clay County and graduated from Bibb Graves High School was a Korean War Veteran and retired from the United States Army with 20 years of services. Donald attended Ayers Technical School was an electrician and also worked as Post Master for the University of Georgia and at Wehadkee Mills in maintenance for several years. He and his family had lived in Germany, Portsmouth, Ohio and other places throughout his career but had returned to Clay County several years ago. He was a hardworking man that truly enjoyed spending time with his family.

He is survived by his daughter in law Cindy O. Wheeles of Ashland, three grandchildren; Angie Parson, Keisha Taylor, and Jamie Wheeles, 14 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild, two brothers; Dwight Wheeles from Hueytown and John Merill of Orlando, also a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Wheeles and Vida Williamson Wheeles, his wife Freda Ratliff Wheeles, his son Donald Wayne Wheeles, his great granddaughter, Gracie Parson, and also 3 brothers, Willie, Talmadge, and Lowell Wheeles.

Pallbearers will be: Jamie Wheeles, Jeremiah Overton, Chris Taylor, James Wheeles, Robert Wheeles, and Kent Wheeles.
