Donald “Donnie” Anthony Haggard, age 64, of Athens passed away Monday, February 12, 2024 at Huntsville Hospital.Mr. Haggard was born May 6, 1959 in Limestone County to Delmer and Lorene Walden Haggard.
Donnie is survived by his wife Debbie McKellar; two step children Jennifer Petty and Jay McKellar; three step grandchildren Carter Petty, Elisa Petty, and Royal McKellar; two sisters Bonnie (Bobby) Barnes and Janie Morris (Eugene); and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; six brothers Coy Haggard, Leroy Haggard, Robert L. Haggard, Wayne Haggard, Larry (Festus) Haggard and Jimmy Haggard; sisters Liz Haggard Carter and Helen Barnes; brother in law Roger Barnes.
Mr. Haggard was known for his excellent carpentry and construction skills, his love for his work always shining through. Donnie was a member of Freedom Church in Athens where he was known to be a friend to everyone and a true believer in Jesus. He was a great Papa to his grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at McConnell Funeral Home on Thursday, February 15, 2023 from 6-9 pm. Services will be held Friday, February 16, 2024 at 2 pm at McConnell Funeral Home with Jonathan Ivy officiating. Burial will follow at Lebanon Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Steve Vickers, Steve Moore, Billy Hardy, Nick Smith, Billy Terry and Oscar Sydner. Honorary pallbearer will be Jimmy Usery.
