Donald “Don” Jones, age 88 of Winchester, formerly of Sherwood, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 12, 2025, at Southern Tennessee Regional Health Systems. Don was born on January 26, 1936, in Gadsden, Alabama to the late Raymond and Mary Ann (Bailey) Jones. After his high school graduation, he joined the United States Navy, where he retired as a Chief Petty Officer. Don enjoyed traveling for his career and for personal adventure with his wife. In his spare time, he would venture through different cemeteries working on his genealogy projects for family and friends. He enjoyed the peacefully time he spent in the wood’s deer hunting. Don will be remembered by family and friends as a kind, generous and devoted man to his family and country. In addition to his parents, Don is preceded in death by his wife, Vernie Garner Jones, and siblings, Edith Jones and Betty Ann Jones Ellis. Don is survived by his nieces, Mary Thorne and Marie Bailey; nephew, Tony (Evelyn) Puckett; and great-nieces, great nephews and friends. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 16, 2025, from 12:00pm – 2:00pm at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home with funeral service following at 2:00pm from the chapel of Moore-Cortner Funeral Home.
