Donald Dean Dawkins died peacefully at his home on December 13, 2021. He was born February 12, 1926, in Jackson, KY. He met the love of his life, Alice Knight, and they married on July 9, 1949. They were together until Alice’s death on February 6, 2018.

Together they raised four children, Don (Brenda), David (Brenda), Darrell (Kristy) and Allison (Jay) Moore. They have seven grandchildren, Brittany (Chad) Camp, David (Hilary) Balazsy, Darrell (Taylor) Dawkins, Dylan Dawkins, Austin (Mallory) Moore, Darrick Dawkins, and Ashley Moore; and six great-grandchildren, Caiden, Cameron, Fred and Wesley Camp, and Emory and Easton Balazsy. Mr. Dawkins was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Mattie Dawkins; and his brother, Ed.

Mr. Dawkins served his country in the US Navy during World War II joining at the age of 17. He retired from NASA after 35 years of service.

Dad/Poppy will forever be in the hearts of his family and will be deeply missed.

Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, December 18, 2021, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. with Pastor, and granddaughter, Brittany Camp, officiating. Burial will be in Huntsville Memory Gardens.
