A private graveside service for Donald A. Wear, 86, of Hartselle, was held Saturday, December 5, 2020 at Jefferson Memorial Gardens in Trussville. A public memorial service will be held Saturday, December 19, 2020 at 11:00 AM at the Hartselle Church of Christ with Phillip Hines officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Mr. Wear died November 29, 2020. He was born December 3, 1933 in Jefferson County to Ray Arvin Wear and Vera O’Bille Lawrence Wear. Throughout his life, Don Wear remained a loving and faithful Christian, husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He devoted nearly sixty years to teaching Bible school classes and later served as a deacon in his church. Mr. Wear retired as Assistant Chief of Birmingham Fire and Rescue after 37 years of service where he was instrumental in founding the Emergency Medical Services. He was preceded in death by his dear parents; his beloved wife, Shirley Kay Haffner Wear; and his cherished sister, Bettie Rae Bryant. He is survived by his loving daughters, Donna Wear Hughes and Connie Wear Holcomb; his caring sons-in-law, Ben Hughes and Steve Holcomb; and his adoring granddaughters, Kellie Holcomb and Joanna Holcomb. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The American Heart Association.
