Don Dwight Gibson of Havana, FL, passed away December 6, 2014, at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital from complications of open heart surgery. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 11, 2014, at Faith Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Danny Gibson (his brother) officiating. His family will have a reception immediately following the service at Salem United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall (202 E Ninth Ave. Havana, FL 32333). The interment will be in Jacksonville National Cemetery in Jacksonville, FL, Friday December 12, 2014, at 1 p.m. with Military Honors. Don was born September 24, 1946, in Hartselle. He served in the United States Air Force as a crew chief for jet airplanes and combative measures instructor. Don moved to Florida in 1971 and made his home in the Central Florida area, later moving to Gadsden County, FL. He was a retired home builder. He was an expert at cooking barbecue, which he loved to share with friends and neighbors. Don had a strong Christian faith and loved reading his Bible. He took great pleasure in his family, and attending his sons college football games.
Don is survived by his wife of 32 years, Jean Kearney Gibson; his sons, Donald Gibson Jr., David Gibson (Rebecca), Matt Gibson (Heather), Dustin Gibson and Cody Gibson; his grandson, Mark Gibson; brother, Danny Gibson (Tina) and his sister, Ann Gibson Coffey. He is preceded in death by his parents, James H. Gibson and Kathleen Gibson; and a sister, Dianne Styles, all of Decatur.
