Doloris “Dee” Ward Coers, 91, passed away on May 20, 2019 in the presence of loving family. Dee was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She is survived by her brother, William “Bud” Minnick of Pittsburgh; her four children, Don Ward (Claudia), Tim Ward (Kim), Chris Ward, and Amy Ward; and five grandchildren.
Dee became a registered nurse at the age of 21 and soon joined the US Air Force as a First Lieutenant. She climbed Mount Fuji while stationed in Japan, only to realize she had to figure out how to come back down.
She and her family lived in Dayton, Ohio from 1957 to 1976, when they moved to Dothan, Alabama. She worked in a number of capacities as a registered nurse including labor and delivery, neurology, and surgery (her true passion). Her last position was at Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan in the Operating Room. Dee developed the organization of an orthopedic surgical tray that her fellow medical staff at the time affectionately termed the “Colonel’s Tray”.
She was an avid golfer and master bridge player. She loved dogs and both adored and pampered her precious Ty and Missy, who got ice cream every day. Dee lived her last several years in Huntsville, Alabama where she was able to frequently spend time with her children and grandchildren.
