Dolores Walker of Madison, AL passed away Friday, January 6th, 2023, at the age of 86. She was born on May 5th, 1936, in Alabama City, Alabama to Grady and Ellena Silvey. Dolores graduated from Etowah County High School in 1954 and after graduation worked at the US Air Force Depot in Gadsden, AL from 1955 – 1958 and Fort Benning in Columbus, GA from 1958 – 1960. In 1960, Dolores resigned from federal civil service and dedicated the rest of her life to being a devoted mother and fulltime homemaker. Her loving manner, strong Christian faith and selfless commitment to her family was obvious to all those who were fortunate enough to know her.

She also had a passion for genealogy which began many years before the internet-based genealogy websites came into being. Her research was accomplished not by browsing internet websites, but rather through many hours of research and many visits to libraries and cemeteries. She provided written genealogical contributions to “The Heritage of Madison County, Alabama, Vol. 45” and “The Heritage of Etowah County, Alabama, Vol. 28”.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Herbert V. Walker, and granddaughter, Julie Linsao.

Survivors include daughter, Cynthia Walker of Huntsville, AL, daughter, Becky Stroop (David) of Parkville, MO, son, Mark Walker (Melissa) of Toney, AL, son, Doug Walker (Christie) of New Market, AL, son, Warren Walker of Panama City, FL, granddaughter, Jillian Summers of Kansas City, MO, grandson, Matthew Stroop of Kansas City, MO, granddaughter, Caitlin Walker of Huntsville, AL, granddaughter, Paula Walker of Huntsville, AL, grandson, Chris Walker of Toney, AL, grandson, Reid Walker of New Market, AL, grandson, Alex Walker of Fairbanks, AK (Fort Wainwright), granddaughter, Alyssa Walker of Toney, AL, and great-granddaughter, Cora Stroop of Kansas City, MO, and sister, Kaye Joyce Sloman of New Market.
